“The philosophical point is that our happiness and wellbeing is not based on incomes rising. This is not just the wisdom of sages but of ordinary people. Prosperity is more social and psychological: it’s about identification, affiliation, participation in society and a sense of purpose.”
— Tim Jackson
The Issue
The actualization of affordable housing remains a challenge, which is then exacerbated by the increasing societal demand for the incorporation of sustainability principles into such housing types to improve levels of occupant health and well-being whilst avouching the desired levels of affordability.
Design Philosophy
My aim is to create a sustainable society by leveraging my passion. Design possesses the power to enhance safety, accessibility, health, and aesthetics in the world. I am committed to seamlessly integrating sutainability and affordability into all facets of design, construction, and operation. Guided by principles of environmental accountability, resource efficiency, community welfare, and economic feasibility, my approach seeks to harmoniously blend these elements.
Thesis Statement
Sustainability rarely occupies the minds of most people in their daily lives, and affordable housing remains elusive. By providing a community tailored for affordable living, individuals are encouraged to educate themselves on sustainable living practices, fostering a symbiotic relationship. Residents are responsible for their living environment in return for a safe, clean, and healthy place to reside. When a community invests in their well being, it prompts a reciprocal responsibility for how they impact and nurture it. Offering affordable housing founded on sustainable, ethical principles will inspire each resident to conscientiously consider their environmental footprint and the world around them. As a community cares for its members, the reciprocal obligation emerges for individuals to care for and nurture their environment.
